The VasoWave™ system is designed to assess organ health and viability, restore organ function, and provide longer-term preservation capabilities. We are in pre-clinical scientific and animal studies.
Organ Characterization (Assessment, Restoration & Conditioning)
Smart Perfusion's VasoWave™ system has monitoring devices for organ viability, including electrical measurements of organ structure, and a suite of real-time devices for assessment of organ function.
Immediate characterization may allow for more accurate assessment of potential use, especially with organs from extended criteria and DCD donors.
We anticipate VasoWave™ will provide surgeons with real data (collected both at the time of organ procurement and during transport), which may allow the clinician to make a truly informed decision on using an organ for transplant.
Organ Preservation
The VasoWave™ System may provide doctors with the ability to modify standard FDA cleared organ preservation fluids to provide delivery of metabolites, oxygen and drugs which may optimize and improve organ quality.
Prolonged preservation enables better major and minor tissue antigen matching and may decrease the risk of potential rejection.
Prolonged preservation interval enables surgical manipulation of organs (liver segmentation, for example) and may provide more usable organs.
Characterization System Module
A stationary device intended to prepare organs after recovery and pre-implant, and for assessing viability prior to both transport and implantation. This device is designed:
- for initial organ flush and stabilization;
- to provide stable physiologic environment;
- and for measurement and adjustment of organ function (“characterization and conditioning”).
Transport System Module
A mobile device with a self-contained power source, a CVES perfusion pump, temperature controls and supporting instrumentation. This device is designed for dynamic monitoring of organ function and conditioning during transportation between organ donor and organ recipient. This device is anticipated to:
- maintain optimized physiologic environment,
- allow for prolonged transportation,
- and provide real-time organ data reporting.
