The VasoWave™ SYSTEMS
VasoWave™ is designed specifically to extend organ life outside of the human body. In comparison to current, potentially competing technologies that merely slow the deterioration of explanted organs, VasoWave™ is designed to keep organs fully alive and functional outside of the human body.
- With the use of VasoWave™, the maximum time span for useful liver preservation has increased from less than 12 hours (typically only 3-6 hours) to 24 hours in animal modeling studies, which will result in a dramatic rise in the number of liver transplants performed annually.
- A kidney on VasoWave™ is expected to retain optimal preservation, viability and function for longer than 72 hours (3x as long as current practice).
- Smart Perfusion believes (and is validating via research) that its revolutionary optimization technologies and process methods will significantly minimize organ damage and potential rejection.
The Smart Perfusion Cardiovascular Emulation System (CVES)/VasoWaveTM technology platform is comprised of two types of
system devices that support the donor organ and transplantation process:
Characterization Unit – stationary device for prepping organs post donation and pre-implantation to optimize organ functionality, and to assess organ viability prior to either transport or implantation.
Transport Unit – a mobile device with a self-contained power source, a CVES perfusion pump, temperature controls and supporting instrumentation for dynamic monitoring of organ function and condition during transportation between organ donor and organ recipient.
How does the VasoWave™ system differ from current transplant technology?
Smart Perfusion's new gold standard in organ transplant technology is supported by laboratory proof-of-concept studies!
- Determines and maintains organ health in real time.
- Emulates the complex pumping of the human heart. No other system does this.
- Ensures uniform supply of the nurturing solution(s) to the organ.
- Removes virtually all residual donor blood from organ.
- Dramatically improves regulation of oxygenation, ion concentrations, and nurturing fluid exchange in the kidney.
- Controls temperatures in narrow, physiologically-relevant ranges, to optimize metabolism and to reduce cellular damage.
- Measures organ health before transplantation.
- Minimizes reperfusion damage by continuous perfusion during transport and precise control of re-warming.
- Extends the organ transport safety window from hours to days when used in concert with the VasoWave™ characterization unit.
What are the benefits of the VasoWave™ system?
- Patients live a longer and fuller life with their families.
- Medical teams will have more time to accurately match organs between recipient and donor, thus increasing the number of organ transplant surgeries performed each year.
- The scheduling of the best qualified medical transplant teams at the optimal time for transplantation (during the regular hospital day).
- Surgeons will be able to perform 3 to 4 times as many transplants, and raise revenue with higher reimbursement.
- Value of each patient is $285K - $350K to the transplant/medical community that VasoWave™ enables is at least:
- $100K physician/hospital fees, pre-transplant
- $135K-$150K physician/hospital/nursing fees at transplant
- $50K-$100K outpatient/physician fees each year after transplant
Only the VasoWave™ systems provide significant capabilities for characterization and transport of organs for transplant.
